For some clients, acceptance into a drug court program presents the best option for resolving their case. The philosophy in drug court is somewhat different from other felony divisions; the focus is on education and rehabilitation as opposed to punitive sanctions. There are certain types of offenses that will preclude admission into a drug court program but, if the person is accepted, there are a lot opportunities available.

In many instances, a diversion program is available and where it is not, a withhold of adjudication usually is. In either instance, the accused person is required to undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment. Often, treatment is done on an outpatient basis but for some, a more intensive in-patient program may be appropriate (and therefore required). If successfully completed, the client may be in a position to seal or expunge his or her record.
