Driver's license reinstatement day, which took place on Saturday, July 25th at the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in St. Petersburg, was a collaborative effort between the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, the State Attorney's Office, the Pinellas County Clerk of Court, and others. Judges James Pierce and William Overton were present. According to the Tampa Bay Times, nearly 2000 people showed up for the event and began lining up around 11:30 on Friday night. Organizers were anticipating only 400 people. Of the 2000 in attendance, they were able to serve about 500 and of those, 100 were able to have their licenses reinstated. Some who owed over $1,000.00 in outstanding financial obligations were able to reinstate for only a few hundred dollars, according to the Times.
A second driver's license reinstatement day has been scheduled for August 28th at 1800 66th Street North in St. Petersburg.
